(Reach Up For The) Sunrise
New-wave legends, '80's icons and ROCK GODS...Duran Duran need no introduction!!! With over 70 million albums sold worldwide, a career spanning 25 years, and a legion of die-hard fans eagerly awaiting this momentous occasion, Duran Duran have released their brilliant new single '(Reach Up For The) Sunrise' - the band's first featuring all five original members since 1985's 'A View To A Kill' and the first to be taken from their forthcoming new studio album 'Astronaut'!!
"It's the best collection of Duran Duran songs we have ever done, without a doubt," said Duran Duran's John Taylor.
Recorded at London's Sphere Studios with producer Don Gilmore (Good Charlotte, Linkin Park, Avril Lavigne, Pearl Jam) and mixed at Olympic Studios in London by Jeremy Wheatley (Massive Attack, Sugababes and The Dandy Warhol's), '(Reach Up For The) Sunrise' was one of the first tracks written by the band for their new album.
A killer and punchy slice of classic Duran Duran pop driven by Nick Rhodes' awesome keyboards and Simon Le Bon's inimitable lyrics and melodies, this feelgood, anthem-in-the-making is shaping up to be the ultimate comeback for the band. The track is burning up at radio across Australia (and the world), has been given an extra dose of exposure in Oz as the new theme song for Channel 7's 'Sunrise' show and is set to light up dancefloors across the globe with outstanding remixes by Jason Nevins, Ferry Costen, and Peter Presca featured on the single and serviced as white label promos to DJ's across the world.
Renowned for their pioneering, stylised videos, Duran Duran's clip for '(Reach Up For The) Sunrise' was shot in the US, UK and Spain by directors The Polish Brothers and filmed in five different formats (35mm, 8mm colour, 8mm black and white, high definition and mini-DV) for a truly unique and spectacular look. The storyline follows each of the band members out on their own personal journeys - John through deserts, Nick in spaceships flying through the streets of London, Roger driving an E-type Jag through London, Simon off-road bike racing through the Spanish Pyrenees and Andy braving the crowds at the Manumission nightclub in Ibiza - before eventually reuniting for a performance of the song as the sun rises. Watch it now!
The single package features three remixes of '(Reach Up For The) Sunrise' : the Alex G Cosmic Mix, Ferry Costen Dub Mix and Peter Presta NY Tribal Mix as well as the bonus non-album track 'Know It All'.
"'Sunrise' is a blast of fresh air. The uptempo dance/ rock track has a thrilling, uplifting chorus: 'Reach up for the sunrise/ Put your hands into the big sky/You can touch the sunrise/Feel the new day enter your life." The lyrics to the ebullient track are fitting.
"Simply put, this is a new day for Duran Duran. The group, along with co-producer Don Gilmore, has captured a mood and spirit sure to bring a smile to fans' faces, especially given the rabid response to the band's brief reunion tour last year. Welcome back Simon, Nick, Andy, John and Roger. We missed you!!
