Simon Le Bon and the rest of the original Duran Duran members are in Toronto to perform an ACC show tonight (5th Apr.).
Hundreds of fans, hungry like wolves to see Duran Duran, got their wish as the 1980s pop princes spent an hour taking questions at MuchMusic headquarters last night.
Lead singer Simon Le Bon, bassist John Taylor, keyboardist Nick Rhodes and guitarist Andy Taylor addressed topics ranging from sex in music to how they would deal with their children wanting to follow in their musical footsteps, during the MuchMoreMusic live presentation.
Drummer Roger Taylor was the one notable absentee. Le Bon explained that Taylor was sick and resting for tonight's show at the Air Canada Centre in support of their latest, Astronaut. This is the first time that the original five members of the band have toured together since the 1986 departure of Andy and Roger Taylor. John Taylor would quit in 1996.
Duran Duran defined '80s pop rock when they broke onto the scene in 1981 and were pioneers of the burgeoning music video generation. The band earned legions of loyal fans with songs like Hungry Like The Wolf, Rio and Notorious.
Asked how the band has changed since its hard-living heyday, Le Bon told host Karina Huber that he and Roger Taylor are finally stepping up to the mic, so to speak.
"We're much more democratic now," Le Bon said. "Roger and I used to be the quiet ones, but we realized we needed to speak up."
The band's fans were quick to sound their appreciation for the reunited lineup at every turn. Some, like 29-year-old Marla MacLeod, came from as far away as Toney River, N.S., to see the group.
"When I was nine, I first started to like them, then in 1993 I fell in love with them all over again," says MacLeod, who spent $568 on a ticket to get to Toronto.
"I said, if the original five members of Duran Duran ever get back together, I have to see them."
