DANIEL BEDINGFIELD TEAMS UP WITH DURAN DURAN
FOR STADIUM SHOW!
ST ANDREWS FOOTBALL GROUND, BIRMINGHAM
Saturday 28th May 2005
DURAN DURAN announced that BritAward-winning, chart-topper DANIEL BEDINGFIELD will support them at their Birmingham City Stadium Show at the St Andrews football ground on Saturday 28th May 2005. Daniel is the first guest performer to be confirmed for the event with a further announcement expected later this week.
A spokesperson for Duran Duran commented;
“Duran Duran are delighted to have Daniel Bedingfield play alongside them. He has emerged as one of the most prolific songwriters and performers in the UK, and the band are honoured that Daniel wants to join them at this massive show. Daniel is a phenomenal live performer, his natural flair, talent and diverse style, tempos and influences will undoubtedly add an extra dimension to the show.”
Daniel Bedingfield first hit the spotlight with the single “Gotta Get Thru This”, a low budget, self-written track which became a No. 1 hit in December 2001. A Polydor record deal and eponymous album followed in 2002; the singles from it, James Dean (I Wanna Know) (UK No.4 August 2002), If You're Not The One (UK No.1 in December 2002), and Never Gonna Leave Your Side (UK No. 1 in July 2003) showcased his diverse talents. To date the album has sold 1.7 million copies in the UK and 2.9 million world-wide.
Daniel Bedingfield was honoured with a BRIT award for “Best British Male” by satellite last year while recovering in New Zealand following a near-fatal car accident. Thankfully Daniel was well enough to complete his follow-up album Second First Impression in November 2004. The album was preceeded by the single Nothing Hurts Like Love, in October of last year. It is expected that Daniel will show-case his new songs live at the Duran Duran event.
The St Andrews stadium show will be Duran Duran's single biggest UK performance in 21 years, since the band played Birmingham's Aston Villa football ground on July 23rd 1983. It also follows a phenomenally successful sold out UK arena tour in April of last year, where the band played to more than 250,000 people over 17 shows. The latter included three sold out nights at Birmingham's NEC, and five capacity shows at Wembley Arena that broke box office records.
Simon LeBon said of the forthcoming stadium show “When we played Birmingham's NEC earlier this year we had an amazing and very special reaction from our 'home-town' fans. It's been a while since we last played a venue of this size in the city and we are really looking forward to this very special show. We have some amazing memories of Birmingham, which is where it all started for us back at the Rum Runner. Birmingham is simply our spiritual home.”
The St Andrews stadium show in May will see Duran Duran perform old classics alongside new tracks from their latest Epic Records release 'Astronaut'. The band are currently on their Astronaut World Tour which has so far seen them complete a 44 date city outing across America and Canada to rave reviews.
Tickets for the event are priced at £35 and £45. Tickets can be obtained through www.getlive.co.uk and www.gigsandtours.com or by calling 0870 400 0688 or 0871 2200 260. Ticket outlets include: Birmingham Ticket Shop, Midland Box Office, NEC Box Office and Stratford TicketShop.
