It's Sin City action like you've never seen before with guest stars Sylvester Stallone, Alec Baldwin, Jill Hennessy, Jon Lovitz and more, plus musical performances by Snoop Dog, Clint Black, Duran Duran and Black Eyed Peas in Dolby 5.1 Surround. Bonus features include outrageous bloopers and outtakes too racy for TV and an inside look at the VIP treatment lavished on Las Vegas's highest rollers. The complete Season Two of Las Vegas is now on DVD – uncut, uncensored and ready for action!"
Las Vegas: Season Two is not rated.
The Series:
I had never seen an episode of Las Vegas before viewing this DVD. Fortunately, that wasn't a problem at all. I was able to pick up on what it was about very quickly and the characters were very easy to follow. I found the show to be an interesting look at the ins and outs of running a Las Vegas hotel casino. There's the gambling, the catering to VIP guests, the glitz and glamour, and more. All of this makes each episode a flashy and entertaining story. The show is also frantically paced with the camera zooming between locations and multiple frames on the screen at the same time. What I wasn't expecting was the humor. The show can be so outrageous that it occasionally goes over the top. Combine the humor, the interesting subject matter, and the fast paced storytelling and it's easy to see what the appeal of Las Vegas is.
One of the other appeals of Las Vegas is the beautiful cast. Almost everyone on the show looks like they were lifted from magazine ads. Fortunately, they keep their characters interesting, too. Vanessa Marcil plays Sam Marquez, a VIP hostess who pampers her guests and can sniff out the high rollers. Assisting her are Nikki Cox, Molly Sims, and Marsha Thomason. However, leading the cast is James Caan as Ed Deline, the owner of the casino. He lends a lot of credibility to the show that it may not otherwise have had. He's tough, hard headed, and funny. He really helps keep things interesting on the show.
But one of the biggest draws of Las Vegas is the incredible number of guest stars. On various episodes you'll find Cheryl Ladd, Dean Cain, Jon Bon Jovi, John Elway, Sylvester Stallone, Alec Baldwin, Jon Lovitz, the girl thingycat Dolls, Snoop Dogg, Clint Black, Duran Duran, the Black Eyed Peas, George Hamilton, Jerry O'Connell, Jay Mohr, Don Knotts, Tony Orlando, Joe Rogan, Ashanti, Gladys Knight, and more. It's quite a lineup and if you're a fan.
If you're into movies set in Las Vegas or if you're a fan of any of the actors or cameo guests, then you'll want to check out this DVD set.
The Extras:
There are only two bonus features included on this DVD. The first is a gag reel from both the first and second seasons. This is what earns the DVD set the "uncut & uncensored" blurb on the cover. It features the actors flubbing lines and repeatedly yelling "f**k" over and over and over. It also features a lot of the sexy background extras doing things you probably didn't see on the show. All together this runs about 15 minutes long. The second bonus feature is titled "VIP Access Only". In this you get a tour of one of the Las Vegas hotels and they show all the clubs and VIP access areas available to the celebrities and high rollers. You'll have to go to the first season DVD set to find any other DVD bonus features.
The Bottom Line:
Las Vegas: Season Two is easily accessible for new viewers. It's fast paced and sexy, but the humor in the show often pushes it into the realm of the absurd. Still, the cameos by a wide variety of actors make it worth checking out if you're a fan of any of them. Consider this light entertainment.
