The Rolex Fastnet Race 2005
The 2005 Rolex Fastnet Race will start on Sunday 7th August. To qualify for the race teams will have to satisfy experience and Training requirements.
EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION:
The skipper and at least 50% of the crew must have completed (in the yacht in which they will race the Rolex Fastnet Race) in the 12 months preceding the start: -
1. 300 miles of RORC offshore racing, or
If the yacht is normally kept in a place without reasonable access to RORC racing: -
2. one RORC offshore race plus offshore racing or a non-stop passage making a total of at least 300 miles, or
3. other qualifications similar to (2) above proposed in writing and agreed by the RORC
Details of qualifying races are available HERE
TRAINING REQUIREMENT:
It is the skipper’s responsibility to ensure that the following criteria are met and that copies of Certificates or Letters of Attendance are submitted to RORC.
1. First Aid: at least 2 crewmembers.
2. Sea Survival: at least 50% of the crew shall have training or instruction in the use of liferafts. This should include a session spent in a pool with a liferaft.
Notes:
Note: ISAF Offshore Special Regulations regarding training will change in 2006. Training to Section 6 (Appendix G) will be required for all Category 2 races. If your crew are undertaking training in 2005 it would be wise to undertake training that covers Section 6 so that they are prepared for 2006. In the UK the RYA Offshore Racing Crew Course is appropriate.
Training must have taken place in the 5 years preceding the start.
In the case of 2 handed entries both crewmembers shall have completed first aid and sea survival training.
