Duran Duran frontman Simon Le Bon is to reunite with his yacht and crew in an attempt to sail the same race that almost killed him twenty years ago.
The last time Le Bon set sail on the Rolex Fastnet race, he and his crew ended up trapped inside the yacht’s hull for forty minutes after capsizing due to bad weather off the coast of Falmouth.
Le Bon is hoping to raise awareness and funds for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution through his participation in this years 608 mile race, which will take him into the English Channel and around the South West of England.
Now called the Arnold Clark Drum, the yacht is being lent to Le Bon for the race by its current owner, Scottish entrepreneur Sir Arnold Clark, who will be donating a car to the RNLI as part of its charity fundraising initiative.
Question is, will Le Bon be donning the old grass skirt in true Rio style…?
